Concert for the New Year by Sitarist Arjun Verma *

Fri, Jan 01

10:30 AM Eastern Time

Admission $15

A special Sitar concert for the New Year by Arjun Verma, who is continuing the tradition established by his father, the late Acharya Roop Verma. The solo recital will include two complete ragas rendered in Arjun’s unique style, following the North Indian Classical Music traditions. These melodies have been passed down from master to student for countless generations, with the ultimate aim of creating a sense of peace and harmony in the listener. In this semi-improvised performance, Arjun weaves through many spontaneous moods, inviting listeners on a journey of introspection and celebration for the New Year.

The performance will be broadcast online and will remain accessible to registrants for two days.

Arjun Verma, sitarist, began performing at the age of seven. He is a student of his father Acharya Roop Verma and of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, with whom he studied for eight years. Arjun has performed in the U.S., Europe and India, including at the United Nations in Geneva, Prague Castle in the Czech Republic and the Fillmore in San Francisco. He teaches Sitar and North Indian classical music at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California and at the East-West School of Music at Ananda Ashram. Visit his website for more information.
