Intro to the Dharma Yoga Level 1 Sequence with Vimala (Tammy Quinn) *

Sat, Apr 17

2:00–3:30 PM Eastern Time

Tuition: $20

Dharma Yoga is a graceful yet challenging style of yoga based on Sri Dharma Mittra’s 50 years of classical yoga practice.

The Intro to Dharma Yoga is a Level 1 practice. We will break down each pose of the Surya Namaskara Vinyasa (sun salutations) and discuss the benefits of each pose. We will then move into Shiva Namaskara Vinyasa with emphasis on breath and alignment, holding each pose for 3-5 breaths. The Dharma 1 practice also incorporates stationary poses, which include balancing, strengthening and stretching. The finishing practice will be a long, guided shavasana followed by pranayama (breath control) and dharana (concentration).

This practice is very therapeutic and accessible to those who have the fundamentals of a basic yoga practice. “Every pose is an offering to the supreme Self.” -- Sri Dharma Mittra

Vimala (Tammy Quinn) is a certified Dharma Yoga instructor. She began her practice of Yoga in 2008 and realized soon that Yoga was much more than physical exercise. Her passion for Yoga led her to take the 200 hour “Life of a Yogi” teacher training with Sri Dharma Mittra in 2011. Tammy began visiting Ananda Ashram in 2013 in an effort to continue her study of asana, Yoga-Vedanta philosophy and meditation. Her style of teaching is a classic approach, incorporating asana, pranayama (breathing techniques) and the basic principles of Yoga.
