Ananda Ashram

Ananda Ashram offers special work-study arrangements, which provide a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their spiritual practice through daily meditation, study and work in a beautiful, inspirational Ashram environment. Our work-study arrangements include participation in morning and evening meditation programs with Yoga-Vedanta studies, Sanskrit and Yoga classes as well as cultural events. The Ashram generally needs help with work in the areas of kitchen, housekeeping and maintenance.

Special Promotional Offer: From January thru March, we are offering 3 days and nights of Work-Study arrangements for the price of 2, Sun-Thurs night only (excluding holidays).

For those wishing to stay one month or longer, the Ashram Immersion / Meditation in Action Program is available.

Participants in the work-study / work exchange program at Ananda Ashram staying longer than one month are required to be members of the Yoga Society of New York, Inc. This special membership rate is $25 and is good for one year.

Staff Positions Available

Mid-March 2010:

Household Assistant
A full-time staff position for someone detail-oriented to help maintain our guest facilities and classrooms. The person should enjoy creating a clean and beautiful atmosphere, should have high standards, great energy and good communication skills. Will need to work closely with Household Manager, also helping to organize projects.

Kitchen Manager
A full-time staff position to oversee our vegetarian kitchen serving between 20 and 100 people. For details please call our office.

For all positions:
An initial period of orientation in our 1-month Ashram Immersion Program may be required. Full-time positions involve 30 hours of work per week. If accepted, a commitment of 6 months or longer should be considered.

Benefits for all staff: full room & board (initially, dorm accommodation) as well as Ashram Core Program consisting of daily morning and evening meditation with Yoga-Vedanta studies, Hatha Yoga and Sanskrit classes, plus cultural events. Regular attendance of meditation programs is expected.
