In these monthly workshops, students explore special topics of raga (melody) and tala (rhythm) and their expressive potential on the Sitar. Compositions and improvisation are taught in the style of Acharya Roop Verma by one of his senior students, Tomek Regulski. Participants receive individual guidance on proper technique, take part in analytical listening, and discuss the elements of good practice. Suitable for beginning and intermediate Sitar students.
Special Emphasis for the April workshop:
On Saturday morning, students will learn about basic maintenance of the Sitar, with a focus on tying strings. Time permitting, there will also be review exercises for improvising in a medium tempo composition.
The Saturday afternoon session will introduce raga Rageshree, a popular evening raga expressing love and devotion. Students will learn the basic structural concepts as well as a medium/fast tempo composition as taught by Acharya Roop Verma.
Sunday morning will include a review of string tying as well as of the general concepts covered in Saturday’s lessons.
